Richmond Real Estate & Homes for Sale in Texas

The city of Richmond is the county seat of Fort Bend County and is located on the Brazos River, approximately 15 miles southwest of Houston. In 1822, 12 men camped in the vicinity and were soon followed by Stephen F. Austin's Old Three Hundred. A log fort built in the area became the nucleus of the Fort Bend settlement. Named after Richmond, Virginia, the town was first incorporated in 1837, and progressively grew in population during the 20th century, reaching its current population of over 12,500 people. Today, Richmond's residents enjoy the city's small-town, quaint atmosphere, as well as its many big-city amenities.

In addition to access to approximately 11 square miles of water with the Brazos and San Bernard Rivers and Oyster Creek, residents enjoy several historic attractions, including the Morton Cemetery, the historic county courthouse, the Fort Bend Historical Museum and many restored plantations and historic homes. Richmond is also home to beautiful views, including many 200-year-old oak, pecan and magnolia trees.

Richmond hosts several events that have become community favorites, such as the Fort Bend County Fair and the Pecan Festival. Residents and visitors also have access to a multitude of dining opportunities, 12 area golf courses, a 5,000-acre state park and countless antique stores, boutiques and malls. Whatever your interests, you will find something appealing in Richmond!
